You've saved many of us a lot of time and I'm really appreciative of that.
There doesn't seem to be any recent posts from the OP, so I'm wondering, has he given up, or has there been a fix? Unfortunately, I suspect the former, but I'd love to here any news.

I purchased Spore today, and it worked fine until I restarted my computer, then I got the same problem. Also, when I tried updating the game, it said that some files had been modified. I bought the game from PNA247 on Amazon. Is my game hacked?
EDIT: Problem solved, I just uninstalled and then reinstalled the game.
